turtles not at a sea park.
we got to see turtles coming up onto the beach. there is group, malama na homu, that sets up watches to protect the turtles. while they're coming onto the beach a volunteer will be there 24/7.
b the w. my dad is somewhat obsessed with animals/turtles/etc. we were walking through a park and he overheard someone talking about how they just saw a bunch of turtles coming onto a beach. he definitely wasn't part of the conversation but immediately went over, interrupted and somewhat forcefully said, "where, what beach was it?"
us kids were laughing but we spent the next 30 minutes finding the beach (unfortunately the person who gave us directions had no idea what a half mile actually translates into).
anyway. we saw the turtles. and the next morning my dad jogged back to the beach...unfortunately the turtles were already gone.

this is so cool!
ReplyDeleteI kinda hope Nelson doesn't see this post because I think he was even more gung ho about seeing the turtle migration (etc.) than dad was.
I've heard they return to the same beach that they were born on, sometimes travel from hundreds of miles. I've also heard that an individual turtle will only come ashore (& lay eggs) every couple of years.
Awesome awesome vacation.
I second the coolness of that picture. I love that Dad took initiative to find it. Made us laugh a little. :) Love and miss you guys!!! Keep the pictures and videos comin'!
