meet pickles!

or whatever we end up calling him...

he is a one year old rat terrier mix who is super shy at first.

lindy and i got him through the south odgen animal shelter.  i'd started thinking about getting a dog and when i saw him on ksl i just wasn't able to consider any other dogs (i looked at a ton)!

the shelter warned us that you don't know what you're getting with rescue dogs, he might not be house trained, etc....but...he has been awesome.  no accidents, no barking indoors, he responds to claps or dad-like buzzer sounds and is crate trained.  he is about 14 inches tall and 20 inches long.  he can walk/balance on his hind legs (he's done this best for lindy), catch doggie treats out of mid air and sat still in my lap for petting/cuddling during an entire movie.

sometimes i think he looks like a deer.  most of the time i think he has texas longhorn markings :)

i like him.  i still get really nervous if he tries to get close to my face (hold over from the mann's dog biting me!) and i've been using the lint roller :)

not sure if i'll rename him or not.  for now it's pickles.  lindy has called him pico, cornichon and a bunch of other hybrid names from pickles.  theordore roosevelt was given a rat terrier so we could call him something from that.  oh...and maybe gus gus.  because who doesn't like gus gus from cinderella?

most importantly i hope my niece and nephews like pickles!  i'll make sure he is super trained for them :)

  1. Oh man. Coen is going to LOVE him! Our friends in the ward have a little dog like that and COEN whines unless we let him hug the dog. Coen likes getting licked in the face. The dog doesn't like Coen's claws and clinginess very much, though. Sorry in advance Pickles! So so excited! He's adorable!

  2. YAY! The picture makes him look a lot smaller than he is, but it is a very good picture of his handsome features. How was your first night? Does he whine to go out? I knew he was a winner :)

  4. Adorable!!! Very, very impressive that he let himself be held, stayed put for an entire movie! That's a great sign of his personality right there.

Your description of him: "like a deer...with Texas longhorn markings" is both endearing and perfect. He's a combo of California and Texas.

  5. Longhorn reference - so true! Pickles seems to fit him. You could call him Bevo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bevo_%28mascot%29) :)

  6. I saw cute bow-ties online today. While Pickles probably wouldn't like it, it would make for a cute photoshoot.
