my dad has almost always provided packing lists for family trips. there was a standard backpacking list that stayed with our packs and year after year we'd reference it.

last summer when i went backpacking with a group of friends i realized that my family is a little old school when it comes to camping. everyone else had their camp stoves and astronaut dehydrated meals while i brought a pot and cooked on the fire. although i still hear from the boys how good the biscuits we shared were :)

anyway. over the years the lists have slightly changed. as you can see nelson no longer needs his sippy cup and there are almost as many electronic items listed as anything else.

i can't wait till my older sister gets to check her kid's packed bags before a trip (just like my mom used to) and provide them packing lists that stemmed from my dad's :)

the tradition will be passed down and continue!

the music video is ok...but the song itself is catchy pep :)

cornflower blue.

so my photography skills need some work. or maybe i should have turned on a light :)

the fabric is a watercolor in yellows, browns, and a little blue. it was in the clearance bin mostly because the brown is well...brown. but i kind of love watercolors right now. there is a flat front, elastic in the back. i added a belt for definition of the waist (definition...such a good friend) and of course blue sweater and flats to bring out the blue. cardigan courtesy of my mom! all in all i had a very good time making it :)

3.16.2011

fleur-de-lys tumbers.

i went to the d.i. today looking for a skirt that i could possibly use pattern-wise to make more skirts. i'm an addict.

however.

i was browsing the glassware section (don't ask how many goblets i've picked up in my day) and i saw 4 glasses incredibly similar to the one above. they were slightly larger and darker and $ .75 each. yowza. i bought all 4. don't tell nycole.

b the w. the above glass is found at the beloved anthropologie for $ 8.00.

i may have also bought the game of life still in plastic for $2.00. and not the newer one starring the bozo family but the game i played in my childhood. unopened.

i love the d.i.

to sew.

i was a sewing maniac today!! although to finish the project i need to get one last thing from the store. so i'll have to post a pic later this week.

[i saved this pic in 2009 and need to search for the source...bummer]

3.11.2011

mmm chicken.

for dinner last night i made breaded chicken, rice and broccoli. i used this chicken recipe from the blog, dinner: a love story. it turned out really really yummy. and since we don't have an oven it's a chicken recipe you can do entirely on the stove which is fantastic.

next time i'll need to crunch crush mash smash the corn flakes a little more.

and for the rice i used a lipton rice mix. you can get them on sale at groceries stores periodically but even full price they are only about $1.25. i ate these all the time while at university. they were perfect for two meals and i could always add veggies, chicken or tuna. last night, i had the chicken flavor rice on hand and added frozen broccoli.

by the time it was ready i just ate. didn't stop to take a picture :)

3.09.2011

how much is too much.

i have a weakness for shades from forever 21

i decided that the month of february i would spend less money. so aside from monthly bills (and a few times eating out) i didn't really buy anything. i stocked up on groceries in the end of january and didn't spend money on many outings.

it helped that i had acl surgery on february 1st and didn't really leave the house for 2 weeks. after that it was mostly church and physical therapy outings. i made friends come to me and watch movies :)

SO. how to keep up thriftiness and smart spending? i saw this principle on a blog a long time ago and though i'd share. the $100 rule.

when you're about to buy something ask, "would i spend $100 on this?" the answer almost exclusively is no. i like the idea. i'm going to employ it for awhile and see if it actually works :)

rĂªve de paris

i am experiencing somewhat vivid dreams lately. ones that i remember even awake.

one dream included me running through paris (the city was under attack) and then i took refuge in 18th arrondissement. the dream then transformed and i was in my parisien apartment and 'inception' like i was the architect. move the apartments walls, doors, decor, etc until it was perfect.

and for some reason polly was in the apartment as a baby (i think this has to do with the fact that i've been looking at tons of family photos from the mid 90s).

it was nice to visit paris again for a bit.
