i give you bowser:

in hawaii we had to pull off the road while typically co co would close the gate. one day as we're waiting, this dog jumps up onto probably a 7 foot wall and starts barking. day after day my dad took pleasure in parking right by the fence so as to encounter 'bowser'.

a little tipper.

-after conditioning your hair do you still have some on your hands? rub it on your elbows, heels, anywhere that could you 'lotioning'.

-never leave your razor with soap, hair, etc between the blades. a sure fire way to dull the razor. just rinse after shaving and then put away.

-to make clean hair last longer, don't ever put conditioner on your scalp. condition the ends like crazy, let it sit for a few minutes and rinse. the scalp is naturally oily so you don't need the conditioner and it keeps your hair from getting greasy too fast.

-change your pillowcase every few days. or if you are careful flip it over and then changes a few days after that. our face and hair (and who knows what's in our drool) produces oils that cause break outs.

-wash your hands in cold water. may sound like they won't get ask clean but really unless you wash your hands in scalding water then cold versus warm probably doesn't matter. it keeps your hands from drying out (ask my family and friends...i have super soft hands :) and helps your nails from cracking/splitting.

anyway. proving to myself i've learned a few things along the way. what are your little tippers?

dress up.

i'm super excited about an upcoming wedding...kind of rare for me. anyway. the bride (cute cute ginnie) requested pinks, yellows, blues for the colors. but not hard core colors. she wants those colors mixed in but not a bunch of easter eggs walking around...my interpretation :)

she sent us some links to skirts/dresses that she found and i love the one below:

unfortunately they don't have my size online and i've checked a few jcpenny's and only found a size 14. i'm seriously considering altering it though...considering...yeah.

now i haven't run this by ginnie yet but i actually have a dress from target that is coral-pink (even if it doesn't really look it below) and gold that i'm thinking could work in a pinch.

the only thing i don't like is i'd probably have to wear one of those white cap sleeves shirts underneath which i think seriously classes down a dress. but. i'm also thinking of maybe throwing on a cornflower blue cardigan...you know a pop of color?! interesting.

i also was at joann's today (they were/maybe are having a huge spring sale and essentially all their fabric was 50% off) and bough this really pretty light blues with gold fabric. it's a bigger pattern than the dress above but still subtle. i was all geared up to sew a skirt and realized i didn't get enough fabric. so back i go tomorrow.

i'm kind of loving this :)

p.s. i looked on joann's for the fabric so i could show a pic and couldn't find it. then i realized i could just take a pic but hey...i'm feeling lazy. maybe some other time.

green inner tube.

about the third day we totally packed the car, boogie boards, tubes, umbrella, water bottles, etc...sunblocked up and went to waimea bay. as we headed down to the beach looking for a good place to set camp, a life guard drove up on a 4 wheeler. he told us the waves were extremely high and only expert surfers/swimmers were allowed in the water that day. i kept walking thinking we'd stick it out on the beach while my dad and colton (both excellent swimmers) would have fun in the water.

then i turned around and saw this:

colton holding a giant tube and floaties with my dad wearing a polo, 'safety goggles' and his lawrence of arabia hat. there was no convincing this lifeguard they were pros. bummer. we left :)

don't worry though. we came back that night after the life guard left.

turtles not at a sea park.

we got to see turtles coming up onto the beach. there is group, malama na homu, that sets up watches to protect the turtles. while they're coming onto the beach a volunteer will be there 24/7.

b the w. my dad is somewhat obsessed with animals/turtles/etc. we were walking through a park and he overheard someone talking about how they just saw a bunch of turtles coming onto a beach. he definitely wasn't part of the conversation but immediately went over, interrupted and somewhat forcefully said, "where, what beach was it?"

us kids were laughing but we spent the next 30 minutes finding the beach (unfortunately the person who gave us directions had no idea what a half mile actually translates into).

anyway. we saw the turtles. and the next morning my dad jogged back to the beach...unfortunately the turtles were already gone.

ode to zissou.

waimea bay.

the waves became huge over the past few days. i think it's reminiscent of explosions...the water variety.
